The Dunfell-series of EasyOS is built from packages compiled from source using "meta-quirky", a build system based on OpenEmbedded/Yocto (OE). The binary packages from a complete recompile based on Dunfell 3.1.20 release of OE was used to build EasyOS 4.5. There has been a major structural change, completely separating the EasyOS installation from the boot-loader, and the rEFInd/Syslinux bootloaders have been replaced with Limine. The latter handles both UEFI and legacy-BIOS computers. As the packages are cross-compiled from source, the repository is rather small compared to other distributions; however, this is compensated by a much increased collection of SFS files. These are large packages, even complete operating systems, that can run on the main filesystem or in a container. These are downloaded and installed by clicking on the "sfs" icon on the desktop -- a very simple operation. New SFSs include Android Studio, Audacity, Blender, Openshot, QEMU, Shotcut, SmartGit, SuperTuxKart, VSCode and Zoom. It is expected that more will be added. SFSs can be thought of as being like appimages, snaps, or flatpaks, but more light-weight and flexible. Lots of packages have been updated, including the kernel now at 5.15.78 and Firefox is 106.0.5. And of course lots and lots of fixes and enhancements. So many, but just picking out a few: printing from GTK3 apps fixed, support for the nim compiler (and 'debdb2pupdb' system utility rewritten in nim), improved 'dir2sfs' utility, new 'deb2sfs' utility, openGL fixed in containers ...and so on.
AlmaLinux 8.7 Stable provides a more stable foundation for open hybrid cloud innovation, new enhancements and features to deliver workloads, applications and services for multiple environments more efficiently, security features and updates for risk reduction and better compliance maintenance. New automation and management functionality is provided to make additional manual task automation, performing standard deployment processes at scale easier and to simplify day-to-day system management. These enhancements include adding several system roles and the web console new options and features. As for containers, Sigstore technology was built into the container tooling.
RHEL 8.7 introduces a number of new capabilities, including the ability to view and manage system-wide crypto policies for consistency and reduction of risk, label and optionally encrypt data in sosreports generated in the web console, install only kpatch updates with improved kernel live patching workflow in the web console, download installation media when creating a new virtual machine within the web console, and edit custom firewall services. Also included are several new RHEL system roles, especially the new Redfish Ansible automation modules, which let customers use the Redfish hardware management interface to control the power state of a system, manage the order of boot devices, manage Redfish accounts and virtual media.
The underlying GNU/Linux operating system was upgraded. This release is based on the Debian Sid repository (as of 2022/Nov/3). Linux kernel was updated to 6.0.6-2. Language files de_DE, el_GR.UTF-8, es_ES, fr_FR, ja_JP, pl_PL, sk_SK, and tr_TR were updated. Show options "-k0" and "-k1" in the restoring action for beginner mode in the ocs-onthefly. Include package ufw in live system. Disable glances service in live system. The Welcome screen and Peppermint Hub have been redesigned. Peppermint Scope(Build log) has been added to allow visibility into the updates made to Peppermint. ICE has been removed. TKK Creator has been added to allow for tkinter theming. Suggested Packages has a new bootstrap theme. UEFI Boot problems have been corrected. Plymouth boot screen has been updated. A new theme has been applied to grub using the options from Adison Cavani. nala has been added. hBlock has been upgraded. Adjustments were made to xDaily to be more informative (Community requested). Most packages have been rebuilt here or upstream. Since 18 years Zenwalk follow the same guideline : being the only true 100% Slackware compatible striped-down optimized system. The main change in Zenwalk design lately, is the return of Mozilla Firefox as main browser. Due to the lack of improvements, especially performances issues and instability in Chromium. I also believe that privacy can be more easily achieved with Mozilla Firefox. The Zenwalk "SlackBuild" packaging utility has also been updated so that it now allows to build Slackware packages from any source tarball without any configuration, as well as from any .DEB Debian binary as long as it's using the same toolchain and shared libs as Zenwalk, as well as from any Github URL. You'll also notice some improvements in Netpkg : the multi-repository, dependency aware, package management system.
There are a few changes to note with this release, starting with the bootloader. On bootup, the first thing you'll notice is that the 2 entries for gma3600 are now gone. This may ultimately be a temporary change, but some time during the linux-5.x.x cycle, uvesafb/v86d/915resolution stopped working. There is a single bug report out there for this that was opened in July of this year to which nobody has been assigned and no answers have been given. The report links the breakdown to the hardening of the kernel which was going on during the 5.x.x cycle. I had been hoping that something would change, or get fixed, and the gma3600 entries would become functional again, but I've seen no movement on this issue. Rebuilt versions of the two packages (uvesafb-dkms, which includes v86d, and 915resolution-static) are still available in the bslx repository, but the boot options have been backed out of the distro and the installer. I will continue to monitor this situation in case there's any response to the bug report.

This release of GParted Live has been successfully tested on VirtualBox, VMware, BIOS, UEFI, and physical computers with AMD/ATI, NVidia, and Intel graphics.
