MX Linux 23, the latest release of the popular Linux distribution, is based on Debian GNU/Linux 12 "Bookworm" and features the long-term supported Linux 6.1 LTS kernel for both 32-bit and 64-bit systems. The AHS (Advanced Hardware Support) editions, designed for those with newer hardware, are powered by the Linux 6.4 kernel series. This release introduces several new features, including support for swapfiles in the installer, the use of PipeWire and WirePlumber for audio management, and the nala command-line APT frontend as the default backend for MX Updater. Additionally, MX Linux 23 brings UI adjustments to the installer, improvements to the MX apps, and updates to the desktop environments, such as KDE Plasma 5.27 LTS, Xfce 4.18, and Fluxbox 1.3.7. It also includes Orca screen reader and screen magnifier tools for accessibility and enables UFW as the default firewall. You can also setup the 4MLinux LAMP Server (Linux 6.1.33, Apache 2.4.57, MariaDB 10.6.14, PHP 5.6.40, PHP 7.4.33, and PHP 8.1.19.). Perl 5.36.0, Python 2.7.18, Python 3.11.3, and Ruby 3.1.4 are also available. As always, the new major release has some new features. SoundFonts (for FluidSynth) and mtPaint (raster graphics editor) have been added. A few Java-based games (Flappy Bird, Karoshi, Micropolis, and Zuma) as well as a set proprietary web browsers (Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, and Opera) are now available as downloadable extensions.
OSMC's latest update for July has arrived, featuring Kodi v20.2 as the standard version. This update brings numerous bug fixes and improvements to enhance the user experience. Notably, the release resolves a long-standing E-AC3 bug and improves support for the upcoming flagship device, Vero V. Among the fixes, issues related to WiFi connectivity, playback with SMB shares, and subtitle rendering have been addressed. Additionally, the update introduces support for new devices, Hauppauge 955Q tuner, and netfilter bridge for Raspberry Pi 4/400. Sparky 7.0.1, released on July 27, 2023, brings a minor update to the stable line. The main fix addresses an issue in the live configuration that previously prevented password-required applications like Calamares, APTus, GParted, and Gufw from launching in the live session without a password. Now, these apps can be launched without a password in the live session, excluding MinimalGUI i686. Additionally, all packages have been upgraded from Debian and Sparky stable repositories, including all updates up to June 26, 2023, which incorporates Debian 12.1 updates. If you already have Sparky 7 installed, there's no need for reinstallation; simply keep Sparky up to date. To download the new ISO images, visit the download/stable page. We are pleased to announce the latest NST release NST 38 SVN:13644. This release is based on Fedora 38 using Linux kernel 6.3.12. This release brings the NST distribution on par with Fedora 38. This is mostly a maintenance release with improved NST WUI functionality. Below is a summary of the feature improvements included in this release: Access to the Open Vulnerability Assessment Scanner (OpenVAS) and Greenbone Vulnerability Management (GVM) has been refactored to run as a docker container providing the full-featured vulnerability scanner. The latest Greenbone Community Edition container is used. An acceleration overlay and control was added to the geolocation of Dash Cam videos. NST Map Data Layer - Dash Cam Track With Acceleration Overlay. The NST WUI ARP Scan has been enhanced to support the configured Name Service (NS) switch hosts resolver.
We are proud to announce the release of Neptune 8.0 (Juna). This is the first major release of version 8.0 based on Debian 12 (Bookworm). This version comes with the latest major underlying changes from Debian 12 (Bookworm). The Linux kernel has been updated to Version 6.1 to provide support for new hardware and better compatibility with current hardware. Additionally, KDE Plasma has been upgraded to version 5.27 along with all KDE applications present in version 22.12.3. In Neptune 8.0, we rely entirely on the software management of Plasma Discover, which is now mature enough for us to provide it with Flatpak support and the Flathub repository. As a result, the package management tool Muon has been removed. Other software updates include Chromium 115 as well as Thunderbird 102 and VLC 3.0.18.
