ArcoLinux version 24.02 introduces several key updates and improvements. In the Plasma desktop environment, new window-closing shortcuts (SUPER + Q, SUPER + SHIFT + Q) have been implemented. AUR packages now fetch the latest versions with git during the build process. The chadwm window manager now supports application icons in various colors, thanks to Fennec's contribution. The arcolinux-powermenu-git, an independent power menu based on rofi, is included with 5 styles and 16 color schemes. The Arcolinux welcome app (AWA) has been updated, and a new Archiso version has been created to build ISOs. Lollypop replaces Pragha as the default audio player, chosen for its compatibility with X11 and Wayland, maintenance status, user-friendly interface, and multimedia capabilities. Hyprland, Sway, and Wayfire receive consolidations and improvements. Additionally, XAMPP, a cross-platform web server solution, is highlighted for its ease of installation, cross-platform compatibility, and suitability for local development and testing. SysLinuxOS is updated to version 12.3. In this version, numerous bugs have been fixed and it also brings with it several improvements to make it much more intuitive and easy to use. Many changes are under the hood, while others are purely aesthetic, and they improve the menu and icons in both GNOME and MATE desktop environments. SysLinuxOS is a distribution for system integrators and network administrators, it must be chameleonic and therefore have tools that help to interface in a mixed Windows/Linux environment. In this update, I have excluded two or three programs in favor of others that I believe are more useful for greater interoperability. I have therefore added WoeUSB, Teams for Linux, Webex, Github Desktop, Wiregui, Timeshift. As you can easily imagine, there is a lot of work behind this, so I apologize in advance if you encounter any small problems.
Tails 5.22, released on January 30, 2024, introduces several new features and updates. Notably, the Tor Browser now allows users to save files to additional folders such as Documents, Downloads, Music, Pictures, and Videos, and enables file uploads from these folders. In case of a broken Persistent Storage, Tails attempts to repair the file system upon unlocking it in the Welcome Screen. The release reports write speed after cloning Persistent Storage, avoids actions on read-only USB sticks, and updates Tor Browser to version 13.0.9 and Thunderbird to version 115.7. The update addresses various issues, including preventing the leakage of first-level domain information in WhisperBack reports, enhancing Tails Cloner installation robustness, fixing the Additional Software configuration when creating Persistent Storage, and resolving issues related to resizing the system partition. Users can upgrade automatically from Tails 5.0 or later, with manual upgrade options available if needed. Note that installing on a new USB stick will result in the loss of Persistent Storage data. New release 22.04.3.14 of Starbuntu, which contains the new Linux kernel 6.5.0-15. Moreover, some bugs have been fixed in the programs for changing users, for launching desktop configuration files and for the Internet search.
LibreELEC 11.0.6, the truly-final-stable™ version, has been released with a focus on addressing a Linux kernel bug from the previous release. The update introduces experimental RPi5 support, emphasizing Kodi 21 development set for early 2024. Notable changes include Linux update to version 6.1.74 and various fixes. For Raspberry Pi, there are instructions to address issues with H264 HW decoding and Kodi display on 4K TVs. The Generic image now runs the same graphics stack for both ARM and x86_64, supporting HDR with recent AMD and Intel GPUs. A Generic-Legacy image is introduced for specific scenarios. Amlogic support is extended with some limitations, and DVB Add-Ons are currently deactivated due to lack of kernel support. Users are advised to make backups before upgrading, and support is available in the forums for technical issues.
