Fedora 40 introduces GNOME 46 for Workstation, KDE Plasma 6 for KDE Spin, and revives the "Fedora Atomic Desktop" brand for variants using ostree or image-based provisioning. Notably, it ships with PyTorch for AI development and ROCm 6 for AMD GPU acceleration. The update brings improved compilers, libraries, security, and performance across the board. Contributors from diverse fields have collaborated to integrate the latest open-source software. Release-day bugfixes and security updates are available, while support is provided through Ask Fedora and Fedora Discussion forums. Flock To Fedora, the annual contributor conference, is scheduled for August in Rochester, New York, welcoming new and existing contributors to join the community.
